Why Do We Give?

The gospel motivates us to give generously and sacrificially.

We are committed to support the worship and work of the church not only with our time and talents, but also our treasures – our generous financial giving. We believe that our commitment to generous financial giving should be based on the biblical principles given here.

God is the ultimate source of everything we have.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (Jas. 1:17)

Since God gave us everything, our gift to him is but an exercise of our faith in his providence.

Biblical giving is a display of God’s grace.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor. 9:6-7)

Generous giving is sacrificial, voluntary, cheerful and it manifests the grace of God in our lives.

Biblical Giving is Regular and Proportionate.

The tithing principle is the biblical practice of regularly giving a minimum of one-tenth of your gross income to the Lord's work.

The regular giving of a certain portion of income to God's work is a duty which God requires of his people in all ages. (Mal. 3:6-12, Matt 5:17-20, Rom 15:4, 2 Tim 3:16, 17, James 2:8) The people of God, now under the far greater blessings of the New Covenant, are to give out of love and gratitude to God for having purchased them from sin and death through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Biblical Giving Will Please and Glorify God.

“I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:18-19).

Our commitment to “support the church in its worship and work to the best of their ability” involves a willingness to be faithful in our financial support of the church by our regular, proportionate, generous, and cheerful giving.
